Rocky Hill, CT (April 22, 2019) – Titan Energy New England, Inc. (“Titan Energy”), a leading full-service energy consulting company and the Town of Scotland, Conn., have partnered with Greenskies Renewable Energy LLC to design, build and maintain a rooftop solar array on the Scotland Elementary School. The solar array will enable the town of Scotland to lower its annual electric costs by approximately $35,000 per year with reliable, clean energy.
Working with the Scotland Selectmen, Superintendent and Board of Education, Titan Energy evaluated the building for solar feasibility, oversaw the analysis of the project’s financial modeling, facilitated contract modifications and worked in conjunction with Greenkies to ensure on-time installation.
“The Town of Scotland has been working with Titan Energy for nearly eight years,” said Dan Syme, Scotland First Selectman. “Titan Energy has demonstrated numerous times that it takes into account what is in the best interest for the town. We give the management and our liaison person (Elaine Lind) the highest marks for communication with changes in energy markets, responsiveness, providing direction and competitive
pricing. It is in the best interest for Scotland to stay with Titan Energy for another eight years.”
Titan Energy, based in Rocky Hill, Conn., is a leading energy consultant serving municipal, nonprofit, commercial and industrial customers. Founded in 2001, Titan offers electricity and natural gas procurement, energy efficiency and on-site generation services to customers throughout the United States.
“The Town of Scotland has been a wonderful partner to work with over the last eight years,” said Elaine Lind, senior energy consultant for Titan. “It is only fitting that, in addition to our standard electricity procurement services, we should bring this outstanding project to the table for the school. The dollar-savings over time will be impressive.”
Greenskies Renewable Energy, based in Middletown, Conn., is one of the nation’s largest commercial solar developers and currently operates over 45 municipal installations in Connecticut. Greenskies, a Clean Focus company, will maintain and operate the town’s rooftop solar array, and Clean Focus Yield will own the system as part of its large portfolio of commercial, municipal, small utility, and community solar projects. The project received permission to operate in early 2019 and will provide 90% of the school’s electricity needs. By choosing to produce their power on their rooftop, the electricity grid avoids releasing 207 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is equal to burning over 205,000 pounds of coal.
To build the 250 KW DC solar system, Greenskies installed 697 Neo Solar Power 365 Watt photovoltaic (PV) panels across 51,481 square feet of the school’s rooftop. This solar project is expected to produce over 265,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The school will create savings by purchasing power from the array at a discounted rate as compared to prevailing utility costs. Titan acts in the
capacity of commodity procurement consultant for the Town, and was uniquely qualified to verify and approve the savings estimates provided by Greenskies, which were found to be conservative.
“Greenskies, a Clean Focus company, is pleased to help the Town of Scotland with lowering their energy costs and redeploying savings into other important programs and services. We look forward to a long relationship with the Town of Scotland over the lifetime of the project,” said Stanley Chin, President and CEO of Greenskies and Clean Focus group.
